- Negotiating scope and trade-offs;
- Receiving feedback and review without personal defensiveness;
- Owning the outcome, not delegating responsibility to AI;
- Domain knowledge, product thinking, and understanding risk.
A strong engineer is T-shaped: depth in one area and sufficient breadth in testing, data, architecture, product, operations, and AI communication. AI does not replace judgment; judgment determines which problem, under what constraints, and with what level of confidence it should be solved.
